I did something a few days ago that I’ve never done before.
In line paying for groceries, I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Pay for the woman’s groceries in line behind you.”
After looking at her basket and seeing it full of items. “Am I hearing you Holy Spirit? You want me to pay for all of those groceries?”
I glanced at the cart full of food again. “I don’t know if I have enough money to pay for mine and hers.”
After the grocery store associate bagged my items I headed toward the door.
The Holy Spirit spoke distinctly, telling me to be obedient, to trust God and not my bank account; to go back and pay for the ladies groceries.
While I reluctantly obeyed and paid for the items, a feeling of peace engulfed me.
Three days later, I’m still feeling that peaceful spirit this morning.
I’m happy I was obedient and did an unselfish act when prompted.
It was not me because my selfish spirit didn’t want to do it but the unselfish Holy Spirit living in me encouraged me to be obedient.
That act of unselfishness brought cheer and joy to me and to a stranger.
I must admit – I was more blessed by obeying and giving than the receiver.
“The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves.”____________________________________Helen Keller
